Aggressive antisocial traits in Swedish and Moroccan prison inmates. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study compared aggressive antisocial traits in Swedish and Moroccan male prisons inmates. The countries were compared based on their cultures, community structure, laws and norms. Sweden has a strong economy and many inhabitants are continuing their education after high school. In Morocco it is not as common with highly educated residents and many children are dropping out of school early. The legal systems also differ in the two countries; In Sweden it is independent from the state while in Morocco it is the king who has the last word both in the judiciary and the government.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare the aggressive antisocial traits of Swedish and Moroccan male prison inmates. Method: In the study, the self-rated form of the Life History of Aggression instrument was used to measure the aggression, antisocial traits and self-directed aggressiveness of male prison inmates. A cross sectional study with descriptive design was conducted.

Result: The result showed that Swedish prison inmates had stronger aggressive antisocial traits than the Moroccan inmates.

Conclusion: The result shows that aggressive antisocial traits differ significantly for male prison inmates from different cultures. The reason for this outcome may be the different legal systems or that the used measure is not adapted to the different cultures. The study's results reinforce the need for validated measures in different countries and cultures of aggressive antisocial behavior.
