Caretakers experience of treatment within SiS (English)
Abstract [en]

Background: The aim and goal when a youth is placed within The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is to break the destructive behavior. The individually tailored treatment and care focuses on breaking an addiction or the criminal behavior. Studies have shown that, however it is difficult to reverse a negative behavior and that most young people who were previously placed on housing within the State Institution Board once again end up on a criminal or with addiction dependency. The study intends to focus on the staff's experience of how individualized treatment and care work within the departments of the institutions.

Aim: The purpose is to describe the staff's experiences of treatment work within SiS.

Method: The study was conducted as semi-structured interviews. The study was conducted through interviews with eight treatment educators.

Results: The study resulted in three categories: The effects of treatment methods on treatment, motivation and individualization and a balance to maintain a good relationship.

Conclusion: The treatment staff's experiences with individualized care in relation to young men who are admitted are mostly positive. Personalized care is considered the best option for young people with different issues. Aftercare and support after their time at SiS is seen as a difficulty and this is why many young people fall back in the same situation as before.
