The life after breast cancer : women's experiences during and after treatment (English)
Abstract [en]

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer disease among women in the entire world. The side effects of the treatment cause the women a lot of suffering and affects their body image and limitations in their social life .Aim: The aim with our essay was to illuminate women's experiences during and after breast cancer treatment. Method: To describe the women's experiences of breast cancer treatment a qualitative method by Friberg (2012) was used. Ten qualitative articles were analyzed using a five-step method. The analysis resulted in three main themes and ten subthemes. Results: The three main themes were to be vulnerable, a new identity and failing health is a threat. Conclusion: The results showed that women experienced a great need for support during and after treatment. The breast cancer affected many aspects of the women's life, such as how the woman sees herself, her social life and a feeling of failure in the motherhood. The result showed that fears and anxiety that were experienced during the treatment still bothered the women after finished treatment. The study showed that there is a connection in both physical, mental and social factors and that they affected each other
