Abstract [en]
This thesis aims to investigate how international alumni entrepreneurs in Sweden identify entrepreneurial opportunities. There are a lot of students who come to Sweden for the purpose of studying and are able to identify opportunities in the market and start their own businesses.
The first section of this thesis includes a general description of entrepreneurial concepts, in terms of entrepreneurship, opportunity identification, international entrepreneurship and transnational entrepreneurship and alumni entrepreneurship. The methodology of the study is presented in the second section of the thesis. This study is a qualitative study based on hermeneutical phenomenological tradition which uses abductive reasoning and is based on the snowball sample technique. The interviews are conducted with semi structure interviews to get a depth inside of the interviewees on what influenced them to be able to identify opportunities in a foreign market.
While the third section includes theoretical framework which is related to definition of entrepreneurship, how entrepreneurs identify opportunities in the market, what influences entrepreneur’s opportunity identification, a specific case about an international alumni entrepreneur in Sweden and the model of analysis. This thesis aims to answer the question: How international alumni entrepreneurs identify entrepreneurial opportunities within the targeted market (Sweden)?
The results section includes the results derived from the interviews with the factors which affect entrepreneur’s opportunity identification. Including the importance of Swedish language in integrating and delivering entrepreneurs’ ideas, the role of previous experience in entrepreneurship, family background, studies…etc.
The obtained results have been coded to different categories, in order to obtain several patterns of the results.
