Abstract [en]
Background: In 2014 the government appointed a national coordinator to strengthen and support social services in their work with social child and youth care (Regeringskansliet 2015). In one of these municipalities visited by the national coordinator in 2016, an investigation was conducted that showed that the socialworkers only spend 13% with adult clients and only 2 - 3% with the child as a client in the personal meeting during the investigation. The head of department for Individual and family care in the municipality concerned decided to implement welfare technology to document together with the client. The aim and hope of this was to increase the involvement of the client and to streamline the administrative work of the socialworkers. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate how socialworkers can work in promoting participation through welfare technology? Method: Our study has been conducted based on a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews and empiricism consists of five interviews that have been transcribed and coded. We designed an interview guide to try and get answers to our questions. Our selection consisted of socialworkers who work in the field of social services. We have based on a thematic analysis model where empiricism has been processed and analyzed based on the overall theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism and the theoretical concepts of participation, communication, empowerment and discretion. The result is explained in relation to previous research and theoretical starting points. The ethical considerations of the study and the reliability of the study will be described. [Skriv här] 9 Result: The socialworkers find that they have lots of discretion and they feel that they have great freedom to control their work through the new digital way of documenting. Welfare technology allows socialworkers to log in to the documentation system, even outside the office, to make them more mobile and accessible. They also describe that communication is of enormous importance in their work and is the basis and a prerequisite for establishing a relationship between the socialworker and the client. They mean that distinct communication and information are the basis for creating interaction and which is a key factor in enabling participation by the socialworkers. The new method of documenting directly into the documentation system means that communication is clearly clarified and minimizes the risk of misunderstanding.
