Reading aloud : A qualitative study in the subject Swedish where the focus is on the students’ and teachers’ reading aloud in grade 4 (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to investigate students' approach to reading in a multilingual classroom. The focus of the study is on comparing background and experiences in reading aloud. The interest is to examine the students' subjective image of reading aloud. The students' have different native language, and in our study, we are looking for, among other things, the pros and cons of the students’ previous experiences in reading aloud. During our education, we have noticed that reading is not a priority in practice. We have noticed that students’ experience reading aloud as negative and non-stimulating. We have different perspectives and previous experiences of reading ourselves. We have divergent backgrounds, language skills and different views on reading. Sharing our experiences made us interested in reading aloud in a multilingual classroom. In the study, we found that there were differences between different students. The students’ experiences, backgrounds and past experiences of reading aloud have been different. We found that the home is significant to the students' language development and reading.
