Abstract [sv]

Examensarbetet innefattar problemställningar som SML-IT har i deras existerande nät. Nuläget präglas av en budget som inte tillåter en kommunal undersökning av det framtagna problemställningarna. De möts av problem såsom icke auktoriserade DHCP-servrar som kopplas in på deras nätverk av okunnig personal detta leder till att det designade nätverket inte fungerar som det är tänkt. Organisationen hävdar att deras hård- och mjukvara inte stödjer någon bra funktion för en lösning på problemet. Ännu ett problem som finns är autentisering på kommunens offentliga nätverk, mer precis bibliotek i kommunen. Där erbjuds det gästnätverk till turister och andra användare, dock så finns det problem med säkerhetsbrister i denna del. Temporära användare skapas men knyts ej till någon fysisk person, vilket gör det väldigt svårt för SML-it att hålla koll på hur policy följs av specifika användare. Metodiken togs hand om genom intervju med ansvarig It-tekniker, öppna kvalitativa frågor ställdes med problemställningarna i åtanke. Därefter började undersökningar på tillverkares hemsidor och rent generella sökningar på olika sökmotorer. Resultatet som har utvecklats genom metod har påvisat flera lösningar gentemot frågeställningarna. Autentisering på offentliga nätverk, där utvecklades det olika resultat som hade olika fördelar gentemot varandra, med mycket fokus på säkerhet kontra användarvänlighet. Genom undersökningar framkom det att en lösning på frågeställningen om icke auktoriserade DHCP-servrar redan fanns i den nuvarande infrastrukturen, det var bara en fråga om att implementera det där det behövdes.

Abstract [en]

This thesis includes problems that SML-IT has in their existing network. The current situation is marked by a budget that does not allow an investigation by the organization itself, and has asked us to start an investigation. They have problems such as unauthorized DHCP servers that are connected to their network, this is usually done by ignorant employees that want better coverage. This leads to the network not working as intended. The organization claims that their current hard- or software do not support any good solutions to the problem. Another problem that existed was the authentication of the municipal public network. SML are offering a guest network to tourists and other users, however there are big problems within the security aspect. When a user wants to access the network, a temporary user is created by the staff. The user remains anonymous since the newly created account is not tied to the actual person using the account. This makes it very difficult for the organization to keep track of which user breaks an organization policy and what the users are doing because there are no mappings between the logged in user and an actual person. The methodology was taken care of by an interview with the staff of the IT-department, open and questions was asked with the problems in mind. Then began investigations on different manufacturers websites and general searches on various search engines was executed. The results that have been developed through the method has demonstrated several solutions in relation to the issues. Authentication on the public network resulted in different solutions, but both had a big focus on security versus ease of use. The problem with DHCP-servers was not actually hard to solve, they already had a solution in the existing infrastructure, it was just a matter of implementing it where it was needed.
