Abstract [en]

Background: Research have shown a lack of knowledge in pediatric palliative care. While working in the pediatric palliative care, nurses face a lot of emotions that are hard to cope with.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore nurse's experiences of factors that complicate and facilitate their work within' the pediatric palliative care.

Method: The method used was a literature based study with focus on qualitative studies. Data were analyzed using Friberg's method of analyses. The analysis resulted in four main themes and nine subthemes.

Results: The four main themes that emerged were "Organizational influence", "Nurse's own feelings", "The nursing role" and "Copingstrategies to manage experiences".

Conclusion: Working with a child in palliative care may have an emotional impact on the nurse. With better education and knowledge the nurse can provide the child and the family more qualitative care.
