Internal Communication & Stress : A quantitative study from the middle managers perspective (English)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Organizations can be compared with a living systems. It's not just society that makes organizations to living systems, it's also the employees in the organization. In these living systems, communication is used daily, both internally and externally. In this study, internal communication will be studied on the basis of the middle manager's perspective. How they perceive internal communication and what role they may have in organizations. The study also analyses the health and perceived stress of the middle managers in relation to the internal communication.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the internal communication based on the role of the middle manager, why this role is important and how it can be influenced by stress. In order to build a basic understanding of internal communication and the role of middle managers, as well as what it could lead to, previous research was present. A quantitative study was conducted through a survey answered by a total of 32 middle managers from a preselected organisation. The empirical data then was transferred into the statistical program SPSS where comparisons and relationships among the answers could be read. The questionnaire was divided into two parts: internal communication and stress, therefore the purpose of the study could be answered.
A discussion was held between the different areas previously presented in the theory of the surveyed survey results. Where the middle managers themselves got to describe the definition of internal communication, there was an answer that featured: "A common plot that unites everyone's ideas." What exactly the communication is about without hassle, a community where everyone can make their voice heard, contribute and influence development.
The conclusion was that the middle managers have a good internal communication at the workplace, which can be seen in conjunction with it's low level of stress.
