Personality traits and work motivation (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In the society today, work motivation is a usual topic of conversation and the feeling that others have more motivation than yourself is not uncommon. Several studies indicate a connection between personality traits in the five-factor Model, Big Five, and motivation. The purpose of this study is to examine if personality can predict persons work motivation. The study used the new personality-scale BFI-2 (Jon & Soto, 2016) to test the Big Five (N = 124). To test the persons intrinsic- and extrinsic motivation the WEIMS motivation scale was used (Tremblay, 2009). The result of the study indicated a positive correlation between extraversion and motivation (r = .33) and between negative emotionality and the lack of motivation, amotivation (r = .45). A multiple linear regression analysis in the study indicated that 16% of personality can be explained by motivation. The outcome indicates that a person's personality traits is significant for the work motivation. The understanding of how personality can affect work motivation can help the understanding of individualizing teaching or career building for example.
