Abstract [sv]

Den äldre populationen i Sverige ökar och med det även de åldersrelaterade sjukdomarna. För att kunna möta de växande behoven för denna grupp av patienter är det viktigt att undersöka hur de äldre patienterna upplever den omvårdnad de får i dagens sjukvård. Detta för att kunna upptäcka brister och förbättringsområden. Denna studie syftade till att undersöka äldre patienters upplevelser av att besöka akutmottagningen. En litteraturbaserad studie med grund i kvalitativ forskning syftande till evidensbaserad omvårdnad gjordes. Sju kvalitativa artiklar granskades och resulterade i tre nya teman och sex underteman. I resultatet framkom att de äldre patienterna på akutmottagningen ofta var missnöjda med den omvårdnad de erhållit. De kände sig inte sedda, visste inte vad som väntade dem och fick dessutom inte basala behov tillgodosedda. Dock fanns även nöjda patienter representerade i gjorda studier. Slutsatsen blev att dagens akutsjukvård inte möter upp till den ökande, åldrande befolkningens behov.

Abstract [en]

Background The older population in Sweden is increasing. In order to meet the growing needs of this patients it´s important to identify the areas for improvement. Aim The aim of this study was to describe elderly patients' experiences of visiting the emergency department. Method A method to contribute to evidence-based nursing based on qualitative research was used. An analysis of seven qualitative articles was carried out.

Results The analysis resulted in three main themes and six subthemes. The main themes were a feeling of not being seen, a feeling of being exposed and being cared for. Conclusion The result of our study showed that older patients often are dissatisfied with the care given at the emergency department. Though some patients are satisfied with their received care. Our conclusion is that the emergency departments' care of older patients need to improve.
