Följande kvalitativa studie syftade till att undersöka vad som är innebörden av läxhjälpskompetens och hur den lärs. I undersökningen har sex stycken läxhjälpare intervjuats, samtliga arbetar för Stiftelsen läxhjälpen som är en ideell organisation som anställer studenter på högskolor som läxhjälpare. Stiftelsens erbjuder läxhjälp för ungdomar i årskurs 8 och 9 som har det svårt i skolan och behöver höja sina betyg för att komma vidare till gymnasiet. Studien har inspirerats av en fenomenologisk ansats och söker efter att fånga deltagarnas upplevelser av fenomenet, i detta fall läxhjälpskompetens. Resultatet visar att läxhjälparna ska ha en förmåga att vara innovativ, bygga relationer, motivera och uppmuntra andra, vända en ond cirkel och samarbetsförmåga samt att de är i behov av stöd. Resultatet har likheter med tidigare forskning när det gäller lärarkompetens, däremot finns det inte mycket tidigare forskning kring läxhjälpare och den kompetens som inte främst kommer genom formell utbildning, så kallad reell kompetens.

The following qualitative study seeks to investigate the signification of competence of someone who is helping with homework and how it can be taught. In the research six people who is helping with homework have been interviewed, all of them working for the non-profit organization "Stiftelsen läxhjälpen" which hires students from universities. The organization offers homework help for pupils in 8th and 9th grade who is struggling in school and have to increase their ratings in order to be accepted into high school. The study is inspired by a phenomenology approach and is aiming to catch the participants experiences of the phenomenon which in this study is the competence of them who is helping with homework. The result showed that in order to help with homework you need the ability to be innovative, build relationships, motivate and encourage others, break a vicious circle and teamwork and the need of support. The result has similarities with previous research about the competence of teachers, however there is not much to find about the competence of someone who help with homework, the competence which you do not get primarily through formal education, the so-called substantial competence.
