Abstract [sv]

Hur påverkar egentligen Anti-Virus program datorns resurser? Avast, Windows defender, Eset Nod32 och Symantec är några av de stora Anti-Virus företagen som specialiserar sig på att skydda din dator genom att ta bort bland annat virus, malware och trojaner. Fyra Anti-Virus program samt tre scenarion valdes ut för att testa cpu, minne och nätverkets påverkan av de fyra Anti-Virus programmen. Varje scenario testades tre gånger tio minuter för varje Anti-Virus program. Fem minuter bestod av en baslinje där inget test utfördes och på de sista fem minuterna utfördes testerna. Resultaten varierar mellan de olika scenariona men helheten visar att skillnaden mellan Anti-Virus programmen är minimal. Testerna visade att de gratis Anti-Virus programvarorna stod sig minst lika bra som betalversionen av Symantec när det kommer till användning av datorns resurser.

Abstract [en]

How does Anti-Virus software affect the computer performance? Avast, Windows defender, Eset Nod32 and Symantec are a few of the big Anti-Virus companies that specialize in protecting your computer by removing virus, malware and trojans. Four Anti-Virus software and three scenarios was chosen to test cpu, memory, networks effect of the Anti-Virus software. Every scenario were tested three times ten minutes for every Anti-Virus software. Five minutes composed of a baseline and no test performed, after five minutes we conducted the test. Results differentiated between the different scenarios. Altogether, the Anti-Virus software differentiated minimal between each other. The data showed that the free Anti-Virus software was every bit as good as the paid Symantec version in utilizing the computer resources.
