Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Den neuropsykiatriska funktionsnedsättningen attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) är en vanligt förekommande diagnos hos den svenska befolkningen. Statistik visar att ungefär lika många vuxna kvinnor som män har diagnostiserats med adhd, men dubbelt så många pojkar som flickor får diagnosen under barndomen.

Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är därför att undersöka symptom och utveckling av adhd hos flickor och unga kvinnor under 25 års ålder.

Metod: Metoden är en litteraturöversikt där systematiska sökningar genomförts i databasen Cinahl som samlar vetenskapliga artiklar med omvårdnad och vårdvetenskap som övergripande ämne. 19 artiklar med kvantitativ ansats har analyserats.

Resultat: I resultatet beskrivs flickors symptom under sex teman: Somatiska besvär, Inre Symptom och känslor, Yttre symptom och beteenden, Svårigheter under skolgång, Relationella svårigheter samt Ålderspåverkan.

Slutsats. Denna studie visar sammantaget att flickor med adhd uppvisar en mängd olika symptom och svårigheter inom flera områden i livet vilket kräver en ökad medvetenheten om denna komplexitet hos instanser utöver psykiatrin som kommer i kontakt med dessa flickor.

Abstract [en]

Background: The Neuropsychiatric disorder attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)is a common diagnosis amongst the Swedish population. According to statistics it’s as prevalent in adult women as in adult men although twice as many boys as girls receive diagnosis during childhood.

Aim: Therefore, the aim of this literature-based study was to examine the symptoms and development of ADHD amongst girls and young women under the age of 25.

Method: The method is a literature review with systematic research conducted in Cinahl, a database that gathers research articles within the subject of caring science. The analyzed sample consists of 19 articles with quantitative research.

Results: In the result, girls’ symptoms are presented under six themes: Somatic complaints, Internal symptoms and feelings, External symptoms and behavior, Difficulties in school, Difficulties in relationships and The influence of age. 

Conclusion: In conclusion this study reveals that girls with ADHD exhibit a variety of different symptoms and face challenges in many areas in life which requires awareness of this complexity amongst professionals beyond the psychiatric field who gets into contact with these girls.
