This study aims to understand how students at University West perceive the chosen LMS, (Learning Managing System) Canvas. Previous studies show that neither students nor teachers feel that their LMS is always optimal. Through usertesting and qualitative interviews, we try to understand both how students use the LMS and how the LMS is perceived by the students. The result shows that students at University West are positive towards Canvas in general, but not completely satisfied with the functionality. Identified problems concerning how content on the courses is structured and how functions that Canvas provides for communication between students and teachers, such as/along with groups and appointment booking, are used by teachers. The result from our study match similar studies which indicate that this is a global problem that affects other universities that use different LMS.

The conclusion that can be made from this study is that it is recommended that teachers at University West use different types of templates to structure their courses based on the education that the course belongs to. This way you can prevent or minimize the risk of students not being satisfied with their LMS.

Syftet med denna studie är att få en bättre förståelse hur studenter på Högskolan Väst uppfattar skolans valda lärplattform, Canvas. Detta gör vi då tidigare studier som vi tagit del av pekar mot att både lärare och studenter upplever att deras lärplattformar inte alltid är tillfredställande. Studien har genomförts med en kvalitativ forskningsansats, med hjälp av användartester och intervjuer, för att förstå både hur studenter använder plattformen och hur plattformen upplevs utifrån ett studentperspektiv. Resultatet som presenteras i studien visar på att Högskolan Västs studenter inte alltid är tillfredsställda med hur olika typer av innehåll publiceras på Canvas. Studenter är inte heller helt tillfredsställda med användningen av befintliga funktioner för kommunikation mellan studenter och lärare, gruppindelning och tidsbokning som Canvas är utrustad med. I linje med tidigare forskning pekar resultatet från denna studie att problematiken är ett globalt problem på flera lärosäten, med andra lärplattformar.

De slutsatser som kan ges efter genomförd studie är att Högskolan Väst bör använda sig av olika typer av mallar och checklistor när kursernas innehåll struktureras upp baserat på den specifika utbildningen som studenterna går för att förebygga den problematik kring hur studenter upplever plattformen som belyses i vår studie.
