Living with type 2 diabetes - patients´ perspective : A literaturebased study (Engelska)
Abstract [en]

Background: Type 2 diabetes is one of the most rapidly increasing diseases globally and it is mainly prevalent due to people’s sedentary lifestyle. Selfcare such as avoiding unhealthy diet and remaining physically active, can be challenging for the diabetics, but it is of utmost importance to uphold and make lifestyle modifications because diabetes type 2 is a chronic disease.

Aim: The aim of this study was to highlight patients' experience of living with type 2 diabetes.

Method: A literature-based study consisting of 11 qualitative articles. The analysis was based on Friberg’s five-step-model. Results: The results show that people with type 2 diabetes experiences were all about facingdifferent types of emotions such as anxiety, fear, depression, and nervousness initially when the diagnosis was made. The experiences were also about the challenges they faced while managing their food and food habits and being physically active in their daily life. The experiences were also about their worriness and fear for the future related to type 2 diabetes complications.  

Conclusion: Conclusion is that persons living with type 2 diabetes have diverse experiences and every person with diabetes suffers and expreriences uniquely. It is important for diabetics to be understood, heard, and seen by the nurse during the care meetings so that the patient can get motivation and encouragement to make lifestyle changes.
