Incentives and employee motivation: A qualitative case study of a Swedish multinational corporation

Abstract [en]
Purpose: The purpose with this thesis is to examine which type of incentives that are embedded in the corporation's incentive system, and how they differ at an individual level.
Methodology: The primary data were collected by using semi-structured interviews. The study has a qualitative scholarly approach and an abductive investigation approach.
Theoretical frame: The theoretical frame of reference consists of theories regarding incentive systems, motivation, and culture and how these factors influence the employees.
Empirical evidence: The empirical data includes eight semi-structured interviews with the employees from the corporation in Gothenburg. Four participants were from England and four participants were from Sweden.
Conclusion: The result of this study shows how factors such as personality, goals, needs, expectations, achievements, and culture are crucial for developing motivation and how incentive systems help achieving this.
