Abstract [en]
Background
The goal of health care is that caring staff has to promote good caring communication towards the patients. It takes insight, understanding, knowledge and skill to be able to support a person in crisis.
Aim
The aim of this study was to describe patient's experiences of the caring relationship towards the nurse at an emergency department.
Method
A literature based study was made on nine qualitative studies with focus on the caring relationship between nurses and patients.
Results
The results of the study showed lack of caring, communication, and time to create a caring relationship. The nurses strained work situation also had a negative impact on the patient's experience at the emergency department. The main themes that emerged were; Interest's importance for a good care relationship with subthemes; Not to question, To be seen and To be ignored. Main theme; The importance of involvement in a good caring relationship with subthemes; Not receive information, To feel powerless and Healthcare procedures as a barrier. Lack of these parts could cause feelings of frustration among the patients, which led to a negative experience at the emergency department.
Conclusion
This study revealed the shortcomings when it comes to creating and maintaining a good caring relationship. Awareness will be created about the importance of the caring relationship.
