Abstract [en]

The profit of a business company comes from the revenue after deducting operation costs and taxes is subject to investors’ interest. The aim of the thesis is to find explanation for an abnormally remarkable profit that has been gained by the leading container shipping industry companies in the view of global crisis of Covid-19 pandemic 2020 - 2021 in comparison with the financial shock of 2008-2009 for which they got loss. Firstly, this research looked into the financial reports of three CSI companies and compared changes of profit before and in the Corona pandemic period. Secondly, a model of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) was provided with profit (EBITDA) as a dependent variable and a series of independent variables from the factors impacting profit such as operating expense, market demand and supply, freight rate, fuel price. Finally, the regressions of the model were run and tested with the null hypothesis to find which the variables were decisive factors for profit gaining during two years. The regression results of three companies proved that the high increase of freight rate was the key factor that impacted on profit while the significance of other factors was not proven.
