Abstract [en]

Background; Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle changes. People with type 2 diabetes are usually treated within the primary care. Low income and low education has proven to be a significant risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes. According to The Public Health Agency's factsheet there are socio-economic differences between Angered in northeastern Gothenburg, and Tjörn, located approximately 50 kilometer north of Angered. In both Angered and Tjörn, health care centre is represented by almost the same amount of registered people. Aim; The aim was to compare the two public healthcare centers in the Västra Götalandsregionen 2014, located in areas with different socio-economic conditions, regarding differences in age, sex, BMI, smoking, and physical activity in patients with type 2 diabetes. A further aim was to describe the respective area's treatments for type 2 diabetes. Method; The method is designed as a descriptive correlational study. To compare and obtaining differences between the two groups, Mann Whitney U test where used. Results; A total of 936 people, aged between 18-80 years participated in the study, with 541 participants coming from Närhälsan Angered and 395 from Närhälsan Tjörn. At each healthcare center, a larger number of men than women were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (p-0,028).The results are represented in both graphs and text and are showing a comparison of chosen variables between two public healthcare centers. The results show that when it comes to age, BMI and physical activity and treatment method there are differences between respective healthcare center. The results show that there was a significant difference when it comes to age (0,00), BMI (0,012) and physical activity (0,033).Conclusion; In Sweden work is done to make diabetes care more equal with focus on cultural adjustment. Therefore, this paper can serve as a basis for further research.
