Complementary Alternative Methods for children and adolescence with ADHD : A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Attention deficit Hyperactivity disorder - ADHD is characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and/or impulsivity. Medication or individual therapy are the most common evidence-based strategies for treating the diagnosis. Despite evidence-based methods, ADHD is one of the most common diagnoses in children and adolescents around the world. Nonetheless, has it been proven that children and adolescents diagnosed are more likely to suffer from poor mental health and quality of life than their peers. As a result, the aim of this literature review was to look into alternative health-promoting methods for children and adolescents who have an ADHD diagnosis. Eight scientific articles were included and have been critically reviewed to answer the purpose of this literature review. The findings revealed that lifestyle habits, relationships, and physical activity are all factors that can improve the mental health of children and adolescents with ADHD, as well as lead to a higher quality of life for the individual. Conclusions that could be drawn based on this literature review was that comprehensive methods are advantageously used together to contribute to health promotion. These strategies can be utilized in everyday life by children and young people and do not require any prior expertise.
