Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund

Vårdpersonal- och patientgrupperna blir mer heterogena samtidigt som det finns ett krav att vården ska vara personcentrerad och jämlik. Att undersöka hur interkulturellt lärande sker i mötet inom personalgruppen kan ge en fingervisning om möjligheten att göra interkulturella möten till tillfällen för interkulturellt lärande. Det antas kunna medverka till att göra relationer mellan vårdpersonal av olika etnisk härkomst mera jämlika som i förlängningen kan gagna patienten.

Syfte

Att med fokus på vårdpersonal med etnisk svensk bakgrund undersöka hur interkulturellt lärande sker i kommunikation med vårdpersonal som har migrantbakgrund.

Metod

Kvalitativ intervjustudie med totalt tolv undersköterskor, en socialpedagog och en behandlingspedagog inom kommunal socialpsykiatrisk, demens- och äldrevård. Analysmetoden är kvalitativ innehållsanalys med induktiv ansats.

Resultat

Intervjupersonerna uttrycker kommunikationsmönster som identifierades som inkluderande respektive exkluderande förhållningssätt gentemot personal med migrantbakgrund. Som inkluderande kommunikation identifierades uttryck som samspel, värdesättande av mötet och att olika tankesätt möts. Som exkluderande kommunikation identifierades föreställningar som bristande samspel, talar om ”de andra” och de anpassar sig till tänket.

Konklusion

Det framkommer olika förhållningssätt gentemot kulturskillnader och etniska bakgrunder, som sträcker sig från ett möte mellan jämbördiga till möten där talarens kultur definieras som norm och ”de andra” definieras som avvikande eller bristfälliga. Ställningstaganden formuleras som rent individuella, personliga ställningstaganden.

Abstract [en]

Background: The increased migration in the world makes the population more heterogeneous, which changes healthcare both globally and locally in Sweden. However, the diversity within both care staff and patient groups does not affect the requirement that care must be safe, sustainable, person-centered, and equal.

Aim: With a focus on care staff with an ethnic Swedish background, it was investigated how intercultural learning takes place during care work in the communication with care staff who have a migrant background. 

Method: Fourteen telephone interviews were conducted with twelve assistant nurses, a socialpedagogue, and a treatment pedagogue and all work in municipal psychosocial, dementia and elderly care. In the analytical method, inductive qualitative content analysis was used.

Results: The analysis shows two basic approaches to intercultural learning: interviewees express inclusive and exclusive approaches or communication patterns, respectively. Inclusive communication here refers to two people who meet with equal perspectives. Exclusive communication means a one-way relationship. The study shows two basic approaches to cultural learning which in this work are described as inclusive and exclusive communication.

Conclusions: The informants express different approaches to cultural differences and ethnic backgrounds ranging from interculturality that focuses on a meeting between equal but different approaches to meetings where the speaker's culture is defined as the norm and “the others” are defined as deviant or deficient. This inclusive and exclusive communication indicates different approaches to intercultural encounters and to intercultural learning. The informants formulate it as individual, personal positions that are nowhere linked to continuing education, care development or other formal initiatives.
